The Great Provider

Philippians 4:19 says “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

2 Corinthians 9:8 says “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

God is the great provider.  He provides for us.  He provides what we NEED.  All we have to do is go to Him in prayer and ask for those things that we NEED.  Many times I find myself asking him for things that are more a laundry list of what I WANT, but God knows, he knows what my family and I truly NEED.

Now please understand that the things that I need are not just going to magically show up on my doorstep.  I still have to do the legwork.  I cannot sit in my chair and pray but never take action.  I have to make that phone call.  I have to complete that job application.  I have to take the necessary steps and through my Faith and action, God will provide what I need.  This is so very hard because many times what I think I need and what God provides are polar opposites of each other, but in hindsight I realized that God provided exactly what I needed in that moment.  Sometimes our needs are physical, tangible things that I can touch and feel.  Sometimes those needs are more vague such as the healing of a broken heart.  Regardless of the need, though, if I pray, God will provide for our needs when the time is right.

In Matthew 6: 25-26 Jesus is preaching to a crowd on the mountainside.  He tells the crowd to “look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”  Jesus tells us not to worry, to go to the Father in prayer and make our requests and God will provide what we need.

Dear heavenly Father, I come before you today and humbly ask for your guidance and direction.  Please continue to help me know the difference between our wants and our needs.  Please guide me to take the proper actions in order to meet my family’s needs both spiritually and physically.  Help me to be an example for my children in how to come to you in prayer and how to graciously accept what you have to offer.  Help me to be a leader and a guide for all those lost in the world.  Let them see You, Christ Jesus, through my actions and my acceptance of what You plan for me in this world.  You are my Lord and my Savior and I am forever grateful for Your death and resurrection.  You have washed me clean and made me worthy of eternal life.  Amen!
